Johns Hopkins University Program
Internal medicine/Medical genetics and genomics (components individually accredited) - Baltimore, MD | ACGME Code: 7662344004 | NRMP Code: 1242766C0
The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine offers a 5-year combined Internal Medicine and Medical Genetics residency program since 2005. This program leads to dual certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG). The training program aims to produce exceptional internists and physician scientists who will become experts and leaders in medical genetics and genomics.
During the first year, residents work as interns in internal medicine at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Over the next three years, residents alternate their residency training between internal medicine and medical genetics every six months. In the final 18 months, residents engage in clinical and/or laboratory research in medical genetics. Didactic coursework required for the Medical Genetics residency takes place in the 4th and 5th years. Residents attend genetics conferences and seminars during their medical genetics rotations and elective rotations. Successful program graduates are eligible for certification examinations in Clinical Genetics from the ABIM and ABMGG.
Applicants interested in this combined training program are required to submit their application through ERAS. Applications are reviewed by a committee of faculty members from the Internal Medicine and Medical Genetics programs. Selected applicants are invited for interviews conducted by faculty from both residency training programs.
For inquiries about the combined residency program, individuals can reach out to Karen Reyes, the Medical Training Program Administrator, at [email protected]
