Loma Linda University Health Education Consortium Program

The Anesthesiology and Internal Medicine Residency program at Loma Linda University offers a combined integrated training program in Internal Medicine and Anesthesiology over a five-year period. This comprehensive program aims to produce physicians who are fully qualified and board certified in both specialties. The curriculum focuses on evidence-based, cost-effective care, patient safety, quality improvement, care coordination, system redesign, and team leadership. Graduates are expected to excel in managing complex adult diseases, severe chronic illnesses, and perioperative care.

The curriculum includes rotations in both internal medicine and anesthesiology, with opportunities for clinical and research experiences in population health, quality improvement, and patient safety. Continuity clinic sessions, simulation training, critical care medicine, physician leadership, perioperative care, and health management principles are integral parts of the program.

The program director, Dr. Stier, and faculty members are highly experienced and dedicated to providing a quality educational experience. The department of Anesthesiology comprises over 60 faculty members with subspecialty training, and the Department of Medicine has over 100 full-time faculty members participating in the teaching program.

Residents will have exposure to a variety of clinical settings, including Loma Linda University Medical Center, Riverside County Regional Medical Center, and the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The program aims to train graduates who can excel in physician leadership roles early in their careers.

The curriculum is designed to challenge residents to diagnose, treat, and manage patients throughout the perioperative continuum of care, with a strong focus on patient safety, chronic care coordination, perioperative medicine, physician leadership, and organizational management.
