The Louisiana State University (Shreveport) Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship Program is the first and only surgical fellowship in North Louisiana dedicated to colon and rectal surgery. It is an ACGME-accredited fellowship program accepting one training candidate per year. The program aims to prepare surgeons to become proficient and clinically confident in the field of Colon and Rectal Surgery.

The program provides a broad and structured curriculum and prepares fellows to enter independent practice at the completion of the training program. It follows the Core Curriculum for Colon and Rectal Surgery Residents prepared by the Association of Program Directors for Colon and Rectal Surgery (APDCRS). The clinical volume includes various types of cases in anorectal, abdominal, and endoscopic areas.

Applicants must have completed an ACGME-accredited training program in general surgery, be eligible for certification by the American Board of Surgery, and be eligible for full licensure by the Louisiana Medical Board. Application requirements include a completed application, at least three letters of reference, and a record of general surgery ABSITE scores. The program selects residents through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).

The Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship Program at LSU Health Shreveport aims to provide a comprehensive educational experience to produce board eligible colorectal surgeons.
