• Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital: As the largest VA hospital in the Midwest, it serves as a referral base and offers a wide patient base with conditions such as obstructive lung disease and lung cancer. This facility also includes unique features like ALS referral services and advanced bronchoscopy options.

Curriculum and Clinical Experience

The fellowship curriculum is designed to ensure fellows acquire competency in both pulmonary and critical care disciplines through varied clinical experiences. Key components of the program include:

• Clinical Rotations: Fellows spend considerable time managing inpatient and outpatient cases that cover a wide array of pulmonary disorders. They are encouraged to assume ongoing responsibility for patients, facilitating a deep understanding of disease progression and treatment efficacy.
• Critical Care Training: Critical care experience includes at least 15 months of dedicated patient care responsibility. Fellows gain valuable exposure in diverse critical care settings such as medical intensive care, neurosurgical, cardiac, and surgical ICUs.
