Application Process
There is one fellowship position available each year, selected on a competitive basis. Candidates eligible for this program must hold a medical degree and have completed U.S. or Canadian training in one of the following areas: Hematopathology fellowship, Clinical and Anatomic Pathology residency, Clinical Pathology residency, Hematology or Medical Oncology fellowship, or Transfusion Medicine fellowship. Prospective fellows are required to apply through a third-party application service known as Recruit, and applications must include three recommendation letters, with one coming specifically from the current program director.
It is noteworthy that interviews are scheduled from February through mid-April each year, allowing selected applicants the chance to meet with the program director and faculty. This process contributes to ensuring that the best candidates are chosen for the fellowship.
2Curriculum
The curriculum of the Special Coagulation Fellowship is designed to provide a structured and thorough understanding of coagulation processes. Fellows play an active role in the comprehensive hemophilia center, which includes hands-on participation in outpatient coagulation clinics where they can hone their clinical history-taking and management skills.
Moreover, fellows will engage in the interpretive reporting of coagulation test results for both Mayo Clinic patients and external samples, emphasizing the importance of clear communication with referring physicians. They are required to prepare interpretive reports and attend specialized educational sessions, including seminars and conferences on relevant coagulation topics.
A critical component of the fellowship includes research participation. Fellows will engage in projects related to hemostasis diseases from both clinical and pathological perspectives.
