The New York Medical College Dermatology Residency Program at Metropolitan has specific application requirements which include:
- Completion of the ERAS application with documentation such as curriculum vitae, USMLE Step I pass, Step II pass with minimum scores of 225, Step III completion by the end of PGY-2, medical school transcript, personal statement, dean's letter, and at least three letters of recommendation.
- Applicants must be students at or graduates of approved medical schools in the United States or Canada and must successfully complete a preliminary (PGY-1) year in specific programs.
- International Medical Graduates are considered if they have completed PGY-1 training in the US and hold a valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
The program offers 2-3 residency spots per year, and the application deadline is November 1st. Applicants selected for interviews will be contacted through ERAS Messenger. The program conducts interviews via Zoom and offers a holistic review of completed applications.
Residents in the program have the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive dermatology curriculum which includes various didactic sessions, dermatopathology instruction, clinicopathologic correlation sessions, Grand Rounds, academic lectures, and journal clubs.
The program provides hands-on experience in procedural dermatology, including Mohs micrographic surgery and a variety of cosmetic procedures. Additionally, residents have the opportunity to participate in dermatologic surgery clinics, Mohs clinics, laser clinics, and cosmetic clinics.
Dr. Marian Russo serves as the Program Director for the Dermatology Residency at Metropolitan Hospital Center. The program is open to both US and Canadian medical school graduates as well as International Medical Graduates who meet specified requirements.
