STEP 200

The Dermatology Residency Program at St. Barnabas Hospital is a three-year program sponsored by the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYCOM). The program focuses on clinical dermatology, dermatopathology, and dermatologic surgery. Residents receive dedicated training to provide high-quality specialized dermatologic care for inpatients and outpatients.

St. Barnabas Hospital, situated in New York City, serves an indigent population, offering residents exposure to a wide variety of pathology. The program provides training in dermatopathology, inpatient care, dermatologic surgery, literature review, and current knowledge. Residents also rotate through Pediatric Dermatology, Radiation Oncology, and private offices. Affiliations with Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine and Albert Einstein College of Medicine provide residents with additional learning opportunities and research participation.

Application requirements for the program include submitting a completed application through ERAS, a curriculum vitae, COMLEX Level I and II and/or USMLE Step I and II scores, a medical school transcript, a personal statement, a dean's letter, at least 3 letters of recommendation (2 from dermatologists), completion of at least 120 hours of OMM before matriculation, and eligibility for professional licensure in New York. Applicants must also be eligible to take COMLEX level III and/or USMLE Step III with a passing score before matriculation.

The program accepts one resident position each year, totaling 3 residents in the program. Interviews are granted by invitation only after an exhaustive review of completed applications by the Admission Committee. Rotation with the program does not guarantee an interview invitation due to the high volume of competitive applications. Residents are selected in a manner consistent with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

St. Barnabas Hospital offers various benefits to residents, including professional liability coverage, medical and dental insurance, disability insurance, prescription drug plan, uniforms, reduced parking rates, vacation days, stipend, and sick leave.

For further details or application inquiries, it is recommended to contact the Department of Osteopathic Education at St. Barnabas Hospital.
