Surgery - Bronx, NY | ACGME Code: 4403511206 | NRMP Code: 1471440P0, 1471440C0
The BronxCare Health System Surgery Residency Program offers a comprehensive training experience with exposure to a wide range of surgical diseases and procedures within a supportive environment. Trainees are actively involved in the operating room starting from their intern year, accumulating over 1,000 cases by the end of the program.
A key aspect of the program is the strong mentorship and advising relationship between residents and faculty members. The structured advising program is further enhanced by mentorship opportunities that aid residents in pursuing their desired fields within surgery.
Application for one of the three surgical residency categorical positions available at BronxCare Health System should be submitted through ERAS. Candidates are advised to highlight their individual strengths during the application process. For acceptance into categorical positions, applicants are expected to have achieved high performance in Step exams, with no reported failures. The program prefers a graduation date within the last 10 years and accepts International Medical Graduates (IMGs).
The program supports both J-1 and H1-B visa sponsorships. Application requirements include successful completion of Step 1, Step 2, and Step 2 CS exams on the first attempt, with Step 3 being preferred but not mandatory (essential for H1-B Visa applicants). Three letters of recommendation are preferred, with a specific mention of a letter from the Program Director if the applicant has completed a U.S. residency.
BronxCare Health System Surgery Residency Program offers a diverse clinical training experience across its affiliated sites, including BronxCare Health System, Jacobi Medical Center, Westchester Medical Center, Queens Hospital Center, and other rotation locations. Residents rotate through various services, gaining exposure to specialties such as General Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, Breast Surgery, Plastics, Bariatric Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Trauma, Critical Care, Transplant, and more.
