This newly ACGME-accredited Psychiatry Residency Training Program at St. Barnabas Hospital provides residents with diverse clinical experiences in a multicultural and diverse environment. Residents benefit from intensive teaching in various clinical settings, formal conferences, individual supervision, and research opportunities. The program offers training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, family and group therapy, and interviewing techniques. Residents gain experience in a range of psychiatry subspecialties and treatment modalities, including inpatient, outpatient, geriatric psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, substance abuse, child psychiatry, consultation psychiatry, and emergency psychiatry.
Key elements of the program include participation in morning reports, multidisciplinary team meetings, journal clubs, lectures, and conferences, including psychiatry grand rounds and hospital-wide grand rounds lectures. Residents also engage in off-site graduate medical education programs and national conferences.
