This unique two-year Public Health/Preventive Medicine Residency Program at NYC Health & Hospitals provides comprehensive training for physicians interested in health promotion and disease prevention at a population level. Graduates are eligible for Board Certification in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
Residents participate in field experiences at one of the largest health departments in the U.S. and studies toward a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree. The program is fully accredited by ACGME.
Eligibility requires at least one year of clinical training in a residency program accredited by ACGME, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or the College of Family Physicians of Canada, and eligibility for a full and unrestricted New York State license. Graduates of medical schools outside the U.S. and Canada usually must have three years of clinical residency in the U.S. to qualify for a license.
Residents gain epidemiologic, administrative, and clinical skills needed to understand and prevent disease individually and in groups. They earn their MPH at the CUNY School of Public Health.
The program offers full-time staff positions with benefits, including salary based on years of postgraduate medical education completed, health and disability insurance, full tuition and fee reimbursement for the CUNY MPH degree, and support for certification exam fees.
Application requirements include a curriculum vitae, personal statement, transcripts, USMLE/COMLEX scores, letters of recommendation, and proof of New York State medical license eligibility.
