OhioHealth/Grant Medical Center Program

The OhioHealth Grant Medical Center offers a Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship program focused on training the next generation of colorectal surgeons. The program aims to provide a comprehensive educational experience to ensure fellows become competent, diverse, independent, and compassionate practitioners in the field of colon and rectal surgery.

Fellows will have the opportunity to train under the supervision of multiple board-certified colorectal surgeons and gain exposure to various surgical techniques, including laser surgery, transanal endoscopic microsurgery, sacral nerve stimulator, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery.

The structured curriculum includes weekly educational meetings, didactic teaching sessions, and involvement in charitable colorectal surgery clinics. Fellows are encouraged to participate in educational opportunities such as rotations at the Cleveland Clinic, attendance at national conferences, and mock oral board presentations.

The program at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center is one year in duration and is ACGME accredited. It focuses on providing a broad-based experience with emphasis on complex anorectal surgery, colonoscopy, open and minimally invasive abdominal surgical techniques, including robotics.

Fellows in the program work closely with six board-certified colorectal surgeons across two hospitals, gaining hands-on experience in various clinical settings. The educational curriculum is designed to prepare fellows for independent practice and eventual certification by ABCRS.

Simulation training is available at OhioHealth, providing fellows with access to patient simulators, virtual reality training, and cadaver labs across multiple medical campuses.

In addition to the educational components, the program also prioritizes fellow well-being by offering benefits such as no in-house night call, wellness days, vacation days, fitness center membership, and other support services. Extracurricular activities are also organized to promote social interactions and work-life balance among fellows.
