Psychiatry - Brooklyn, NY | ACGME Code: 4003500315 | NRMP Code: 1425400C0
The IMC Psychiatry Residency Program at One Brooklyn Health/Interfaith Medical Center offers a comprehensive four-year training program in psychiatry. Residents have the opportunity to train in various clinical settings, working with a diverse range of patients and psychiatric disorders. The program emphasizes personalized attention and guidance from full-time faculty members during each rotation.
During the first and second years, residents undergo training in inpatient acute psychiatric treatment units, substance use disorder units, consultation/liaison service, and outpatient settings at different locations. The program aims to produce psychiatrists who are erudite, excellent clinicians, and compassionate. Residents are assigned a "buddy" for support and have access to close supervisory relationships with faculty.
The curriculum includes rotations in internal medicine, neurology, inpatient and emergency psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, outpatient rotations, child psychiatry, and more. Didactic sessions cover a range of topics tailored to each level of training.
Applicants must have graduated from medical school within the last 10 years and have passed USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 exams within two attempts each. The program prefers candidates with Step 3 completion. Three letters of recommendation are required, one of which must be from an ABPN Board Certified Psychiatrist. The program sponsors J-1 or H1-B visas for accepted applicants.
Factors considered for screening include letters of reference from ABPN Board Certified Psychiatrists, scholarly presentations or publications, and fluency in spoken English.
To initiate the application process, all required documents must be submitted through ERAS, including a complete application, CV, personal statement, official transcripts, letters of recommendation, and USMLE scores. Applicants should also be registered with NRMP. Upon selection for an interview, applicants will be contacted via email. Phone inquiries regarding application status are discouraged.
The program's mission is dedicated to providing a supportive learning environment and training future psychiatrists who are committed to meeting mental health needs both locally and globally.
