The Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School Pathology-Anatomic and Clinical Residency Program is a four-year ACGME-approved training program that integrates both anatomic and clinical pathology. Residents have the opportunity to train at three teaching hospitals: The University Hospital (UH), Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VA), and Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC).

In this program, residents are exposed to a wide variety of material, expertise, and practice settings. The anatomic pathology rotations cover areas like surgical pathology, autopsy pathology, and various subspecialty electives such as neuropathology and dermatopathology. Clinical pathology rotations include microbiology, transfusion medicine, hematopathology, and clinical chemistry, among others.

Residents also have teaching responsibilities, participate in didactic sessions, and have access to a full range of pathology textbooks and computer resources at each training site. The program supports 13 4-year Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency positions.

Application to the program requires submission through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and includes documentation like the ERAS Common Application Form, official medical school transcript, letters of recommendation, personal statement, USMLE transcript, and ECFMG status if applicable. Interviews are typically conducted from November to January. Unfortunately, the program website does not specify information regarding visa support.

For further inquiries about the residency program, interested individuals can contact the program assistant Maria Caraballo at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Rutgers-NJ Medical School.
