The Plastic Surgery Residency Program at Summa Health System is a three-year program approved by the American Board of Plastic Surgery for board eligibility. The program accepts two fellows each year who are selected through the San Francisco matching program. Rotations are conducted at Summa Health System, Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron, and Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Training includes a variety of areas within plastic and reconstructive surgery such as congenital anomalies, maxillofacial trauma, hand surgery, microvascular surgery, neoplasms of the head and neck, and aesthetic surgery. Applicants must have completed five years of general surgery training, and a letter from the American Board of Plastic Surgery verifying general surgery training is needed before acceptance.

Application to the program is through SF Match, with the cycle opening annually in September for the next training year. Interviews are conducted in January and February. The program curriculum includes rotations in adult plastic surgery, pediatrics, hand surgery, microsurgery, anesthesia/dermatology, burns, and more.

Residents have exposure to a high volume of reconstructive, head and neck, and trauma surgery. The Children's Medical Center rotation offers experience with congenital anomalies and pediatric procedures, including craniofacial surgery.

While the program does not provide specific information on visa support, applicants must have completed Steps 1 and 2 of the USMLE or COMLEX. International Medical Graduates must provide a current ECFMG certificate prior to starting the residency program.
