The Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at Akron General Medical Center, offered in partnership with NEOMED, is a five-year ACGME-accredited program. The program provides three first-year positions to senior medical students through the NRMP process. Residents receive comprehensive training in patient care, education, and research under the mentorship of highly skilled clinical faculty specializing in all orthopaedic subspecialties.
Clinical training at Akron General Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center, allows residents to work with patients across the full spectrum of musculoskeletal diseases and trauma. Additionally, residents benefit from a robust pediatric orthopaedic surgery experience at Akron Children's Hospital.
The program includes daily didactic lectures covering various subspecialties, anatomy and surgical skills training, as well as opportunities for senior resident presentations and attendance at two out-of-town conferences per year. Graduates of the program have achieved a 96% pass rate on the ABOS certifying board exams and have pursued prestigious fellowships in orthopaedic specialties nationwide.
Application to the program requires submission through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) with a deadline of September 27, 2023. Required application components include medical school transcripts, MSPE letter, three letters of recommendation (from orthopaedic surgery and general surgery faculty only), and a personal statement. Interviews are by invitation only and will be held virtually for the 2024 recruitment season.
