Tulane University/Ochsner Clinic Foundation Program

The Tulane University/Ochsner Clinic Foundation Neurosurgery Residency Program is a fully accredited program that accepts one or two residents each year. The program has experienced significant growth in recent years, attracting highly-trained faculty who specialize in cerebrovascular disease, complex spinal conditions, and skull base conditions.

The program focuses on providing extensive clinical exposure in a collegial atmosphere, didactic opportunities, and educational pursuits to produce skilled neurosurgeons who can make contributions to medical knowledge and become leaders in the field. Dr. CJ Bui, MD, serves as the Program Director.

The Tulane/Ochsner Neurosurgery Residency Program offers a diverse training background with rotation sites at Tulane Medical Center, Ochsner Medical Center, East Jefferson General Hospital, and Houston Methodist Hospital. The program also includes structured call systems and elective research opportunities during the PGY-4 year, with a planned elective year for PGY-7 residents starting in 2021-2022.

The program features various conferences, lectures, morbidity and mortality sessions, journal clubs, and industry-sponsored labs to enhance residents' knowledge and skills. The curriculum emphasizes equity, diversity, and inclusion, aiming to provide world-class training regardless of individuals' backgrounds.

The application process for the residency program includes utilizing the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and submitting required documents such as letters of recommendations, transcripts, research projects, personal statement, and curriculum vitae. Graduates from accredited U.S. medical schools are preferred, while candidates from Foreign and U.S. Territory Schools of Medicine are reviewed on an individual basis. Applicants must also be able to obtain a Louisiana Medical License. The interviews for the 2021-2022 season will be held virtually through the Zoom Video Conferencing Platform.
