The University of California (San Diego) Medical Center Program offers a six-year ACGME-accredited Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Residency program. The training includes five years of clinical training and one year of protected research time for two incoming PGY-1 residents.
Residents in this program have the advantage of early surgical opportunities and access to state-of-the-art technology. The PGY-1 year involves rotations in various surgical specialties such as neurosurgery, plastic surgery, anesthesiology, and more, in addition to otolaryngology.
Throughout the training, residents work under faculty and chief residents to provide clinical and surgical care in outpatient and inpatient settings. They rotate through multiple facilities including UC San Diego Medical Center, UC San Diego Jacobs Medical Center, Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System, Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center, and Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego.
