Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be graduates of recognized medical schools either in the United States accredited by the LCME, in Canada by the LMCC, or possess current valid ECFMG certification if they graduated from a non-Canadian or U.S. institution. A completed ACGME-accredited general surgery residency is also required. Furthermore, international candidates are required to navigate U.S. immigration processes, possessing or qualifying for a J1 clinical visa, valid Employment Authorization Document, or valid permanent resident card. The ability to be examined by the American Board of Surgery is necessary for admission into the program

Application Process

Applications and supporting documents must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Essential documents include four letters of recommendation dated within six months prior to submission, a copy of the medical school diploma or transcript, USMLE I, II, and III transcripts, and/or all COMLEX transcripts. Canadian Medical Graduates must provide the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada transcripts if lacking USMLE records. Additionally, applicants are required to submit In-Training Exam transcripts and a personal statement. The timeline for candidate selection and interviews is facilitated through the NRMP, with notifications sent via email by the program coordinator. Each accepted fellow will also need to provide verification of their competency levels 30 days prior to commencing their fellowship training

Clinical Experience
