The Diagnostic Radiology residency program at the University of Missouri School of Medicine offers premier graduate training in all areas of diagnostic radiology, including neuroradiology, interventional radiology, MSK, chest, body, mammography, nuclear medicine, and pediatric imaging. The program accepts five residents each year and provides a wide variety of cases to bolster residents' confidence. Residents have the opportunity to hone teaching skills through interactions with undergraduates and medical students. Additionally, the program offers ample research opportunities for those interested in academic medicine.
For those interested, there is an Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR) pathway available. This track allows residents to receive additional procedural and clinical training during their 4-year diagnostic radiology residency. The program also offers a Nuclear Medicine Residency, accepting one individual annually, as well as an Independent Interventional Radiology Residency.
Applicants are required to submit applications through ERAS, and three letters of reference are needed, with at least one from a radiologist. USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 are also required for application. The program supports international graduates and considers applicants who have completed both USMLE Step 1 and Step 2.
Residents at the program rotate through University of Missouri Health Care, including Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital, Missouri Orthopedic Institute, and Women’s Hospital. The educational experience is hands-on, with emphasis placed on competence in interpreting examinations and performing image-guided procedures.
Residents are encouraged to engage in research and provided with an education fund for attending conferences and seminars. The program also includes intensive physics preparation before the ABR Core Exam.
