The University of North Carolina Hospitals Program offers an ACGME-accredited Integrated Interventional Radiology Residency program that lasts for five years. There is one position available each year. The program involves three years focusing on the core Diagnostic Radiology curriculum, followed by two years concentrating on Interventional Radiology. Trainees get exposure to a wide range of vascular and non-vascular interventions, including diagnostic and therapeutic angiography, prostate artery embolization, endoleak repair, TIPS, BRTO, IVC filter placement, percutaneous biopsy, biliary drainage, and more.
UNC also has an ACGME-accredited Independent Interventional Radiology Residency program that lasts for 24 months. This program is designed to follow the completion of a four-year Diagnostic Radiology residency and an internship year. UNC accepts applications for both ESIR (12 month) and non-ESIR (24 month) candidates.
To apply, candidates must follow NRMP guidelines. The program requires applications through ERAS and includes a personal statement, CV, medical transcript, USMLE scores, and a minimum of three letters of reference. Foreign medical graduates must be certified by the ECFMG. The university accepts residents with a J-1 Visa but does not sponsor H1-B visas.
