The opportunities can involve an MPH at Gillings School of Public Health (one of the top schools of public health in the country), global surgery opportunities, bench research, Quality Improvement and Health Services Research, education research, and individualized interests as well. Residents in the past have also gotten Master's in Surgical Education or pursued machine learning and BioDesign. Regular meetings with faculty mentors facilitate the development of academic interests and ensure that residents can maximize their contributions to scholarly activities [7].
