The UPMC Medical Education Program offers an Interventional Radiology Integrated Residency Program (IR-Int) and an Interventional Radiology Independent Residency Program (IR-Ind).
The IR-Int program is accredited for 10 positions and requires an internship year before entering the program. The first three years focus on core education in diagnostic radiology and radiation physics, with training at UPMC Presbyterian and UPMC Shadyside Hospitals. The program emphasizes clinical care, research, and teaching.
The IR-Ind program is a two-year program that replaced the IR Fellowship Program. Candidates enter after completing an ACGME accredited Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program. The training focuses on Vascular and Interventional Radiology at various UPMC facilities.
Residents in both programs have rotations in interventional radiology, clinics, ICU, and elective rotations. The facilities include UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Shadyside, Magee-Women’s Hospital, UPMC Mercy, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and the VA Medical Center, offering a diverse clinical experience.
