The University of Rochester Traditional Thoracic Surgery Fellowship is a fully accredited ACGME two-year program dedicated to developing capable, autonomous thoracic surgeons with a focus on leadership within the field. This independent fellowship offers a comprehensive training experience based entirely at Strong Memorial Hospital. The program is designed to facilitate robust clinical experience in thoracic and cardiac surgery, with an emphasis on both pediatric and adult patients. Fellows receive a competitive stipend based on their postgraduate year (PGY), with significant annual increments as they progress through the program. For the 2024-2025 academic year, the stipends range from $68,417 for PGY-1 to $94,241 for PGY-8. Application Requirements

Admission relies on the standardized application process, requiring submission through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service). Candidates must also provide a narrative personal statement, three letters of reference from faculty members, and a Dean’s letter. Importantly, one recommendation letter must come from the chief of surgery or the cardiothoracic surgery program director.
