Fellows rotate through several premier training hospitals to gain diverse experiences in diverse settings:

• Methodist University Hospital: As the main adult private teaching hospital affiliated with UTHSC, it features a large solid organ transplant program and diverse advanced care in nephrology.

• Regional One Health: This level-1 trauma center offers fellows exposure to acute care and unique public health challenges.

• Memphis VA Medical Center: This center serves a large veteran population and enables fellows to engage with outpatient nephrology clinics, peritoneal dialysis, and outpatient hemodialysis.

• University Vascular Access Center: Elective rotations through this facility provide hands-on experience in interventional nephrology.

Research Opportunities

The Nephrology Division emphasizes the significance of research as part of its mission, hosting collaborative projects that strive to advance nephrology science. The Clinical Outcomes and Clinical Trials Program (COCTP) focuses on outcomes research while creating an intellectual platform for nephrology clinical research.

Visa Support and Competitive Nature of the Program

The nephrology fellowship program at UTHSC welcomes applications from International Medical Graduates (IMGs). The program supports only J-1 visa sponsorships for these applicants. In addition, the program may review H-1B visa applications for exceptionally qualified individuals.

Application Requirements

• Submission of application materials via ERAS, including a CV, personal statement, medical school transcripts, letters of recommendation (three, plus one from the residency program director), and USMLE or COMLEX transcripts.
• Fellowship completion is contingent upon maintaining satisfactory performance throughout the training.
