Residents will gain experience in all plastic surgery sub-specialties through rotations at VCU Medical Center, Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center, and other community hospitals and clinics in Richmond.
Residents experience a wide variety of cases and consults, helping them develop their teaching skills and supervise other medical students. The program includes rotations dedicated to hand surgery, burn surgery, craniofacial/pediatric plastic surgery, and cosmetic and general reconstructive procedures.
Research is actively pursued within the Division, with residents participating in various projects. The program also offers a range of conferences and educational opportunities for residents.
For application requirements, candidates must submit their applications through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) or the Plastic Surgery Common Application. Requirements include a medical school transcript, letters of recommendation, personal statement, USMLE reports, and a current CV. Candidates must have passed USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 prior to a specified date to be ranked in the NRMP.
The program supports J-1 visas only, and ECFMG certification is required before acceptance. Applicants must be licensed or eligible to practice medicine in Virginia and have three months of direct patient care activity in the U.S. or Canada within four years of medical school graduation.
