Westchester Medical Center Program

The Westchester Medical Center Pathology Residency Program offers a comprehensive training experience in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. The program is accredited for 12 training positions in combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (4-year AP/CP track), Anatomic Pathology (3-year AP Only track), or Clinical Pathology (3-year CP Only track). Residents have access to robust educational resources and diverse training opportunities at Westchester Medical Center, which is a 652-bed academic hospital in Valhalla, NY.

Residents in the program receive training in various subspecialties of pathology, including surgical pathology, autopsy pathology, hematopathology, neuropathology, cytogenetics, molecular genetics, clinical chemistry, hematology, and many more. The curriculum integrates both anatomical and clinical pathology training throughout the training period.

Research is an essential component of the residency program, with residents engaging in yearly research projects that can lead to presentations at national conferences. Residents have access to research resources in histology, immunohistochemistry, cancer genomics, microbiology, and informatics. The program provides opportunities for residents to work on various projects, including utilizing Illumina MiSeq next-generation sequencers and a whole slide scanner.

The program offers 12 residency positions at the Valhalla campus, with three PGY-1 openings available each July. Residents can choose an outside rotation in their third year of training. The program participates in the NRMP match program and will sponsor J-1 visas for eligible applicants.
