Training Environment

WMC is a Level 1 Trauma Center, featuring a comprehensive range of surgical services including specialized cardiac, transplant, and burn services. It also encompasses high-risk obstetrics and a state-of-the-art children’s hospital. The program provides residents with the opportunity to engage in care for high acuity patients, utilizing advanced clinical tools and techniques throughout their training. Residents will spend five months at an affiliated community hospital, Danbury Hospital in Connecticut, to augment their clinical experience in a varied setting, enriching their training in anesthesia.

Clinical Rotations

Core Rotations

The training pathway integrates several critical rotations:

• PGY-1 Year: Focus on Fundamental Clinical Skills with 14 weeks dedicated to Anesthesiology training.
• CA-1 Year: Basic anesthetic management, daily OR presence, and exposure to elective subspecialties including obstetric anesthesia at Mount Sinai West.
• CA-2 Year: Emphasis on advanced anesthetic techniques under indirect supervision.
• CA-3 Year: Combination of advanced clinical tracks and elective rotations, preparing residents for leadership roles.

Residents are expected to manage a diverse range of cases, including trauma surgery, cardiac, pediatric anesthesia, and more complex procedures as they progress.1

All applicants must pass USMLE Step 3 before starting CA-1 year, and may additionally be required to submit a complete application through ERAS or the Central Application, emphasizing the importance of quality over quantity in content submitted.1
