The Adventist Health Hanford Family Medicine Residency Program is a community-based initiative dedicated to training well-rounded, competent physicians who will provide compassionate care to patients in the Central Valley, with an emphasis on increasing the primary care workforce in the community. This program is structured to offer comprehensive clinical experiences and innovative educational opportunities, accomplished through a multi-disciplinary approach. Application Information:

  • The program has an active accreditation by ACGME.
  • The deadline for application submission is November 15.
  • The program accommodates 18 residents with a structure of 6:6:6.
  • Applicants must be within five years or less since medical school graduation; however, exceptions can be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Accepts U.S. citizens, green card holders, or those with permanent resident status. Sadly, applicants requiring visa sponsorship are not considered.
  • A minimum of three letters of recommendation is required.
  • Applicants must have passing USMLE scores with no more than one attempt on any of the steps.
  • A personal statement demonstrating an interest in rural family medicine is required.
  • No practice of medicine in the U.S. since medical school graduation is stipulated.

Program Curriculum:

  • The Family Medicine Residency is a 36-month program with a block rotation schedule compliant with ACGME Family Medicine Review Committee requirements.
  • It includes longitudinal experiences throughout the training in Health Systems Management/QI, Behavioral Health, and Geriatrics, plus a residency clinic.
  • Residents participate in various traditional rotations throughout their three years, including inpatient adult care, night float, OB, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics outpatient, Surgery, ICU, Community Medicine, and Sub-specialties.

Special Programs for Residents:

  • Opportunities for a Medical student experience, Community-oriented primary care training, Family medicine procedures clinic, and a shadowing opportunity for graduates trained in international medical schools.
  • A unique HIV Track, which prepares residents to become HIV specialists certified through the American Academy of HIV Medicine (AAHIVM).

Rotation Sites:

  • Various rotation sites including Adventist Health Hanford, Valley Children’s Hospital, and several Adventist Health Medical Offices across different locations, facilitating exposure to a broad array of medical services and specialties.

Faculty:

  • The program is supported by a dedicated team including Core Faculty members who are board-certified in Family Medicine and provide oversight and educational support.
