Baylor College of Medicine (St. Luke’s Health-East Texas) Program

The Baylor College of Medicine Family Medicine Residency Program offers training in primary care, catering to urban and rural settings in Texas. Residents have the opportunity to work with diverse patient populations at various locations, including the Harris County area, affiliated hospitals in the Texas Medical Center, and St. Luke's Health – Memorial Hospital in Lufkin, Texas.

Application criteria for the program include having a medical school recognized by the Texas Medical Board, graduating within five years of application, passing USMLE/COMLEX exams within two attempts, submitting three letters of recommendation (with one from a primary care provider), having an understanding of Family Medicine, and showing interest in underserved care. International applicants are only offered J1 sponsorship, and post-graduate observerships and clinical externships are not provided.

The program focuses on developing strong clinical skills, research capabilities, academic pursuits, and advocacy. Residents are encouraged to engage in lifelong learning and become proficient family physicians who are dedicated to understanding the principles of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

The curriculum includes clinical rotations, electives, didactic sessions, journal clubs, and grand rounds. Residents also have opportunities for geriatrics nursing home visits, home visits, and access to medical resources that support their professional development.

In terms of benefits, stipends are provided at the national average level, and residents have access to wellness programs, CME allowances, provided meals, sponsorship for professional organizations, laundry services, and medical reference resources.
