Beaumont Health (Royal Oak) Program

The Beaumont Health (Royal Oak) Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship aims to develop colorectal surgery fellows into safe, competent, and compassionate surgeons, future leaders in the field, and promoters of impactful research. This fellowship program at Beaumont, Michigan's largest healthcare system, is recognized for its comprehensive training encompassing surgical procedures, endoscopy, and office practice. Trainees gain experience in open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery, and manage a broad spectrum of conditions including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and pelvic floor disorders. The curriculum is designed to ensure fellows achieve competency for certification by The American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and includes procedural, hospital care, outpatient care, and academic program aspects. The training incorporates operative procedures, patient care, outpatient visits, and knowledge acquisition through in-depth study and participation in conferences and journal clubs. Fellows lead the Colon and Rectal Surgical Service, staffing the outpatient clinic under supervision, providing a blend of practical and academic learning.

The fellowship follows a duty hour policy compliant with work-hour regulations and does not require in-house call, emphasizing work-life balance.
