The Diagnostic Radiology Residency program at Boston Medical Center (BMC) is the principal teaching hospital for Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. They pride themselves on serving a diverse adult and pediatric population, offering primary care and specialty care in all medical and surgical specialties. BMC operates the largest and busiest Level I trauma center in Boston and is known for its comprehensive stroke care center. Residents at this program have the opportunity to rotate at the VA Boston Healthcare System and spend time at Boston Children's Hospital for a pediatric radiology experience.
The program recruits 9 residents per year and provides one-on-one supervision by dedicated faculty radiologists, didactic lectures, case conferences, and extracurricular scholarly activities including research projects.
The academic curriculum includes daily teaching conferences that cover a wide range of radiologic disciplines. Residents have the opportunity to give lectures, with a focus on faculty didactic lectures. There are also Grand Rounds held monthly, where local, national, and international speakers present lectures on timely topics in radiology.
In terms of clinical experience, residents have a hands-on approach, interpreting radiologic examinations before review by attending radiologists. Rotations include general radiology, neuroradiology, nuclear medicine, interventional radiology, breast imaging, body CT, ultrasound, and MRI. The program follows a structured curriculum to prepare residents for the American Board of Radiology examinations.
