Curriculum Overview

The curriculum is designed to meet ACGME requirements and covers both clinical and research dimensions of pulmonary and critical care medicine. The program emphasizes the development of clinical skills through various rotations and subspecialty clinics.

Clinical Rotations

Fellows engage in a variety of clinical rotations, including:

  • Pulmonary Inpatient Consultative Service: Provides primary care for pulmonary inpatients and consultation services.
  • Pulmonary Outpatient Subspecialty Rotations: Includes rotations in pulmonary hypertension, cystic fibrosis, mycobacterial lung diseases, interstitial lung diseases, and sleep disorders.
  • Pulmonary Rehabilitation: Focuses on principles and practices related to outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation.
  • Pulmonary Function Laboratory: Offers training in the conduct and interpretation of pulmonary function tests.
  • Critical Care Inpatient Service: Involves the management of critically ill patients in the ICU, enhancing competency in critical care procedures.
  • Neurocritical Care and Trauma Critical Care: Rotate on services dedicated to critically ill neurological and surgical patients, respectively.

Throughout the fellowship, practical experience is prioritized, from handling complex cases to participating in the structured curriculum of procedures and critical care management.

Research Opportunities

The fellowship places a significant emphasis on research, with structured research months dedicated to clinical investigation in diverse fields. Areas of interest may include critical care, pulmonary vascular diseases, cystic fibrosis, and sleep medicine. Fellows are encouraged to collaborate with faculty members, develop research proposals, and engage in scholarly projects that can contribute to their professional development.
