The Interventional Radiology Residency Program at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) offers a comprehensive training environment designed for aspiring interventional radiologists. The program includes both Integrated and Independent IR residency tracks. Curriculum Overview

The residency offers extensive clinical experience with each resident encountering over 1,500 patients annually. The curriculum covers all facets of interventional radiology, specializing in diagnostic and endovascular procedures, image-guided interventional oncology therapies, and outpatient vein therapy procedures. Junior residents focus on diagnostic radiology in their first phase of training (PGY-2 to PGY-4), rotating through numerous essential fields, while senior residents (PGY-5 to PGY-6) dive deeply into interventional radiology.

Training Sites

Training takes place in state-of-the-art facilities equipped with the latest Siemens technology, including single-plane flat-panel angiography suites, bi-plane angiography suites, hybrid operating rooms, and an integrated CT-angiography suite. The program's affiliation with the Division of Vascular Surgery facilitates comprehensive training in combined medical and procedural care.

Research Opportunities

Residents are engaged in clinical trials and have opportunities to work on personal research projects. The division is involved with multicenter prospective randomized control trials, reinforcing the vital role of research in advancing the field of interventional radiology.

Application Process and Requirements

Applications are accepted exclusively via ERAS, and candidates must apply for positions through the NRMP. The program welcomes graduates from accredited medical schools, and international medical graduate applicants must hold ECFMG certification. Candidates applying for both the Integrated IR and Diagnostic Radiology Residency programs are encouraged, and dual applications won't negatively impact their standing.
