The Ohio State University Hospital offers an integrated Vascular Surgery residency program that is five years in duration, starting directly after medical school. Established in 2020, this program focuses on developing competency in the surgical treatment of patients with complex vascular conditions. Residents at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center receive exposure to routine as well as complicated medical cases in both inpatient and outpatient settings. They interact regularly with various specialties, partake in grand rounds and didactic conferences, and are prepared to work in academic and clinical care settings upon completion.
The program aims to instill in residents the required skills and knowledge to function as independent specialists in vascular surgery. Residents are expected to engage in various learning experiences, integrate basic sciences with clinical experiences, and have a deep understanding of vascular surgery's role in healthcare. The curriculum includes progressive responsibility in patient care, extensive exposure to vascular disorders, and participation in research activities.
Residents have rotations at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Nationwide Children's Hospital in their 4th and 5th years. The educational conferences cover a wide range of topics related to vascular surgery over a two-year period. The program application process is conducted through ERAS, with specific requirements for documentation like a curriculum vitae, personal statement, letters of recommendation, and medical school transcript.
International applicants must hold or be eligible for ECFMG certification, require a J-1 Visa, and have a year of experience in a US accredited clinical training program. The program also welcomes visiting students for a Vascular Surgery sub-internship rotation without restriction to certain months.
