Rutgers Health/Jersey City Medical Center Program

The Rutgers Health/Jersey City Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program is offered at a 326-bed teaching hospital located in historic downtown Jersey City. The diverse community it serves provides a rich environment for Internal Medicine training with an emphasis on hands-on experience and patient-centered care. The program is committed to recruiting a diverse group of physicians and nurturing their abilities to promote community health and wellness.

The program has a total of 51 residents, with 4 Co-Chiefs. The academic year is divided into 26 blocks, each lasting two weeks. Residents are not assigned scut work, allowing them to focus entirely on learning and education. There are approximately 2 hours of protected teaching time per day through conferences and rounds.

Application requirements for the 2023 - 2024 academic year include a December 16th deadline for ERAS submissions. The program accepts EAD and sponsors J-1 visas. ECFMG certification is required by the end of the interview season for non-medical students. While they do not have strict board score requirements, they prefer scores of 230 on Step 2 and prefer a CS pass on the first attempt. The program has a medical school graduation cut off of on or after December 16, 2022, and requires a minimum of three letters of recommendation and a MSPE before the application deadline.

The program does not require US clinical experience but views it positively. They do not offer observerships or externships and do not allow audition rotations. Additionally, they do not hold second-look interviews.
