The Dermatology residency program at Samaritan Health Services in Corvallis provides an exciting specialization opportunity for graduate medical students. Under the supervision of attending physicians, residents care for patients with a diverse range of dermatologic diseases, benefiting from outstanding teaching and mentorship. The program offers broad surgical experience and residents also serve as consultants for the inpatient medicine service at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
Residents have the chance to participate in elective rotations through various medical specialties such as radiation/oncology, plastic surgery, oculoplastics, podiatry, rheumatology, and dermatopathology. The curriculum covers basic science, clinical, and dermatopathological aspects of diseases through daily lectures using core references such as Bolognia, Andrews, and Fitzpatrick, complemented by additional resources.
Furthermore, there is a Mohs Fellowship opportunity under the direction of Bill Lear, MD. Residents also have access to cosmetic training, including the use of lasers in dermatology, and engage in regular meetings with the dermatopathology department for lectures and microscopic pathology review.
The program encourages attendance at the annual meetings for the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology and the American Academy of Dermatology, along with other relevant conferences throughout the year. Residents benefit from a comprehensive educational experience focused on patient care, interdisciplinary approaches, and dermatologic expertise.
