Residents will engage in multi-disciplinary breast, head and neck, GI, and lung cancer clinics, thereby enhancing their collaborative skills within cancer care teams 1.
Research Opportunities
Research is a critical component of the residency training. Residents are encouraged to participate in both laboratory and clinical research aligned with their interests. They are assigned a research project each year, with current research topics ranging from radiation effects to innovative therapeutic approaches for breast cancer. This is supported by faculty mentorship, ensuring that residents are well-prepared for presenting at local and national conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journals 1.
Teaching and Educational Involvement
In addition to clinical duties, residents have opportunities to teach within the department, particularly in the context of medical physics and dosimetry education. This not only enhances their teaching experience but also enriches the overall educational environment at Stony Brook, fostering a culture of mentorship and professional development 1.
