The SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University Radiation Oncology Residency Program is a four-year postgraduate educational program that is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The curriculum is designed to provide residents with the opportunity to interact with patients under the guidance and supervision of experienced faculty members.

Throughout the program, residents are encouraged to demonstrate growth in their patient care skills, allowing them to take on increasing levels of responsibility as they progress. This progressive model of responsibility aligns with the core tenets of American Graduate Medical Education.

The program's curriculum is in line with the ACGME Program Requirements, as well as local regulations set by the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Office, the GME Committee, and the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The curriculum and goals are overseen by the Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) under the leadership of the Program Director, Dr. David Schwartz.
