Texas Institute for Graduate Medical Education and Research (TIGMER) Program

The TIGMER Internal Medicine Residency Training Program in San Antonio, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), is designed to accommodate 15 categorical residents each year. The program is built upon three essential academic and clinical institutions: the UIWSOM, University Hospital, and WellMed Medical Group, which serve as primary training sites for inpatient care and continuity clinics, respectively 1.

Graduates holding a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from accredited medical schools are eligible for this residency program. • St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital: A certified Stroke Center and another vital facility within the community.

The program also includes rotations at other notable institutions like the Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Medical Center, Texas Center for Infectious Disease, Texas Liver Institute, and Texas Diabetes Institute, providing a well-rounded learning experience 3.

Curriculum Overview

The curriculum is structured around a 4+1 block scheduling system designed for optimal work-life balance. Each month, residents spend four weeks in inpatient settings followed by one week focused on outpatient clinical duties. Application Requirements

In terms of specific application requirements, applicants must submit a Curriculum Vitae, Personal Statement, Dean's Letter (MSPE), Official Medical School Transcripts, Three Letters of Recommendation, and proof of passing USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK scores or COMLEX Level 1 and Level 2 CE. All applicants are required to present a valid ECFMG certificate 2. International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must also provide documentation confirming their visa status along with the aforementioned requirements.
