The Texas Institute for Graduate Medical Education and Research (TIGMER) Laredo Program offers a 3-year community-based Internal Medicine Residency Program accredited by ACGME for 24 residents. Situated in southwest Texas along the U.S.-Mexico border, the program serves an underserved patient population that is predominantly Hispanic and Spanish-speaking. Key program features include translation services, membership to the American College of Physicians, and access to NEJM Knowledge Plus+ for board review.
Inaugurated in 2018, this program is a result of collaboration between the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine, Laredo Medical Center, and Gateway Community Health Center. The faculty and leadership are Assistant Clinical Professors of the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine, emphasizing a commitment to excellence in graduate medical education.
Residents in the program are provided with a variety of rotations, mainly at Laredo Medical Center and some at private practices in the community. Educational activities at the program include morning report sessions, hybrid didactics with in-person and virtual lectures, and video-based board review sessions. Residents also participate in a continuity clinic one afternoon per week throughout the 3-year residency period.
Located in Laredo, a bicultural and bilingual community with warm weather and great food, the program offers a vibrant environment for medical training.
