The UTRGV Internal Medicine Residency Program at HCA offers a comprehensive residency experience primarily at Rio Grande Regional Hospital (RGRH) in McAllen, Texas, with a secondary site at Valley Regional Medical Center (VRMC) in Brownsville, Texas. Curriculum

Residents participate in mandatory two-week subspecialty rotations, ensuring exposure to multiple specialties, while also having elective time to pursue areas of interest such as primary care, procedures, and research.

The didactic components of the program include daily educational sessions focusing on case reports, subspecialty lectures, grand rounds, journal clubs, morbidity and mortality discussions, and board review sessions. A dedicated intern boot camp during July helps new interns adjust to residency life with relevant training topics.

Training Facilities

Residents benefit from training at RGRH, a 320-bed facility recognized for its clinical excellence and patient safety. The program also involves rotations at VRMC, enhancing exposure to various patient demographics and medical challenges.

Application Requirements

The application process for the UTRGV Internal Medicine Residency Program is competitive. Candidates must submit their applications via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) along with a personal statement, curriculum vitae, medical school transcripts, Dean's letter, USMLE scores, and four letters of recommendation.

International applicants must have a valid ECFMG Certificate and will be sponsored for a J-1 visa. Additional criteria may be specified by the program, particularly for applicants who graduated over five years ago, who must have all USMLE steps completed.
