The program offers a comprehensive two-to-three-year fellowship, providing a broad range of hands-on clinical experience. 1Fellowship Experience
The training encompasses both mandatory and elective rotations focusing on various nephrology-related conditions. Furthermore, a two-year fellowship meets the requirements for the ABIM subspecialty certification in nephrology, whereas a three-year fellowship track is available for those interested in academic medicine or clinical research.
1Clinical Rotations

The clinical rotations encompass a range of services: acute and chronic nephrology, transplant nephrology, interventional nephrology, and renal pathology, among others. 1Research Opportunities
Research plays a significant role in the fellowship, where fellows must identify a mentor and embark on research projects within the first four months of training. 1Application Requirements
To apply, candidates must submit a complete application via the Electronic Residency Application Service®, including current CV, medical school transcripts, a Dean’s Letter, and three letters of recommendation. IMG candidates require a valid ECFMG certificate. There is no minimum USMLE score required, although scores will be considered in the overall application review.
1Visa Sponsorship
The program supports J1 and H1B visa sponsorship for eligible international graduates. Candidates must ensure they meet requirements for the Alabama Medical License and the Federal DEA registration at the time of application.
