The University of Chicago Department of Pathology offers a comprehensive residency program for those interested in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. The program provides training for careers in general, subspecialty, academic pathology, and pathology research. Residents can choose from a four-year program for combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP), or three-year programs for Anatomic Pathology (AP only) or Clinical Pathology (CP only). There is also a research track option for physician-scientists interested in research-intensive careers in academic pathology.
The department supports two years of post-doctoral fellowship following clinical training for those interested in conducting research at the University of Chicago. The programs are flexible, with multiple tracks including a Physician-Scientist Track (PST) for applicants with a strong research background. All programs are fully accredited by the ACGME and meet criteria for qualifying for the American Board of Pathology Examination.
Residents are expected to participate in various conferences and educational sessions, such as Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology conferences, Autopsy Conferences, Pathobiology of Disease Seminar Series, Quality Assurance Conferences, Tumor Boards, Journal Club, and yearly Eleanor Humphreys Lectures.
Applications for the residency program should be made through ERAS. International medical graduates must provide USMLE scores, ECFMG certification, and may need to meet additional requirements for visa and licensing.
