The University of Michigan Program offers an Integrated Interventional Radiology Residency that provides a comprehensive training experience in clinical diagnosis and care for patients with diseases commonly treated by interventional radiologists. The program combines diagnostic radiology training with interventional radiology skills to graduate proficient diagnostic radiologists and distinguished interventional radiologists.
The residency is a six-year categorical program that includes an internship with the Department of General Surgery, offering diverse surgical rotations including Thoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and more. The integrated program focuses on clinical and diagnostic rotations in vascular surgery, hepatology, and surgical ICU alongside diagnostic and interventional radiology rotations. Trainees actively participate in image-guided interventions, consultations, clinics, and a variety of vascular and nonvascular procedures with graduated levels of supervision.
The training highlights at the University of Michigan Program include specializations in Aortic and Arterial Disease, Venous Disease, Interventional Oncology, Lymphatics, Liver Disease and Portal Hypertension, Pediatric Interventions, and Visceral Interventions. The program also offers an Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR) track for Diagnostic Radiology residents interested in pursuing training in interventional radiology.
For applicants interested in the program, the University of Michigan Program offers three positions each year, all filled through the National Resident Matching Program.
