The University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine Family Medicine Residency Program is described as one of the most comprehensive family medicine programs in the country and one of the largest. They have 36 residents and 3 fellowships. Residents are based at University Health Lakewood Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The Bess Truman Family Medicine Center, which is a Continuity clinic, is recognized as a National Committee for Quality Assurance Level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home.

The program has a Level II NICU and Newborn Nursery, a medical library, and a modified night float system. Residents are encouraged to be involved in leadership teams and have access to a resident lounge.
