The Family Medicine Residency Program at Lee's Summit Medical Center, part of HCA Healthcare, is focused on training the next generation of competent and compassionate family physicians. The program, under the leadership of Program Director Dr. Lawrence Gibbs, aims to provide broad-based training through excellence and innovation in education, clinical practice, scholarship, and service.

This newly accredited program, starting its first cohort of residents in the 2022-2023 academic year, will host 6 residents in each postgraduate year. The program is based at Lee's Summit Family Medicine Clinic and Lee's Summit Medical Center, providing diverse rotations at several area locations to offer a comprehensive training experience.

With a curriculum designed to ensure professional success, residents engage in a variety of rotations starting from the foundational PGY1 year where they build a solid knowledge base through immersive experiences. The program emphasizes continuity care and offers exposure to diverse patient populations to enrich residents' learning.

Program highlights include a three-year program with six residents in each PGY, paid CME opportunities, 20 business days of PTO, on-site parking, and dedicated research programs. Additionally, residents receive laptops, iPhones, and up to two free embroidered lab coats per year. The robust curriculum encompasses topics such as family medicine orientation, inpatient care, obstetrics, pediatrics, and various specialties, preparing residents for independent clinical practice.

Under the mentorship of a dedicated and growing faculty, including Dr. Karen Foote, MD, who brings expertise in gynecological care and psychiatry/behavioral health, residents have the opportunity to develop clinical skills, pursue research interests, and enhance overall wellness through integrated wellness curriculum sessions.

The Lee's Summit Family Medicine Residency Program at Lee's Summit Medical Center offers a supportive environment where residents are viewed as partners and given opportunities to excel in all aspects of family medicine practice. Residents graduating from this program are well-equipped to embark on successful careers as family physicians.
