University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Genitourinary Pathology Program

The Genitourinary Pathology Fellowship Program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center aims to provide extensive, advanced training specific to Genitourinary Pathology. This program is focused on enhancing the educational and practical experiences for fellows intending to pursue career opportunities in both academic and community settings.

This ACGME-accredited fellowship is structured as a one-year program that offers comprehensive training, ensuring proficiency in diagnosing tumors and non-neoplastic lesions of the urologic and male reproductive organs, encompassing various diagnostic modalities such as gross pathology, frozen section diagnosis, histology, and immunohistochemistry. The fellow will be involved in all aspects of Genitourinary Pathology, gaining exposure to urologic tumors, non-neoplastic diseases, and particularly complex urologic oncologic cases 1.

Program Features

The structure of the fellowship includes significant clinical responsibilities. The fellows will:

• Sign out in-house genitourinary pathology cases under faculty supervision.
• Review all genitourinary consultation cases.
• Participate in GU Pathology Consensus Conferences, Journal Club, Academic hour, and tumor boards.
• Gross selected genitourinary oncology specimens.
• Engage in intraoperative consultations.

This immersive experience is supported by a faculty of experts within the Genitourinary Pathology Service, providing robust mentorship and guidance throughout the fellowship period 1.

To be eligible for the Genitourinary Pathology Fellowship, prospective candidates must:

• Complete an ACGME-accredited residency in anatomic pathology.
• Be board-eligible or certified in anatomic or combined anatomic and clinical pathology.
• Possess eligibility for a training medical license in Texas prior to commencing the fellowship.
