University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Thoracic Pathology Program

The Thoracic Pathology Fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is a one-year, ACGME-accredited program designed to provide comprehensive training in thoracic and heart/lung pathology. The fellowship program emphasizes clinical and research proficiency, equipping fellows with the skills necessary to operate independently as thoracic pathologists.

This program encompasses a wide range of clinical exposure at key training sites, including the William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital and the Parkland Health and Hospital System. Each year, the fellowship processes approximately 3,000 thoracic pathology cases alongside 210 adult thoracic consults and 20 consults related to pediatric lung diseases. Additionally, fellows have access to thoracic pathology materials derived from around 150 adult autopsies

Aims and Objectives

The primary aim of the fellowship is to develop fellows' expertise so they may effectively run a thoracic service, provide thoracic and heart/lung transplantation consultation services, and engage in impactful research in thoracic pathology. Application Requirements

Eligible candidates for the Thoracic Pathology Fellowship must have completed a three-year ACGME-accredited residency in Anatomic Pathology or a four-year residency in Anatomic/Clinical Pathology. Requirements include being board eligible or board certified in Anatomic Pathology and holding a valid medical license in Texas by the start of the fellowship. A passing score on the USMLE or COMLEX Step III is also mandatory. Furthermore, the program currently only accepts J-1 visas; H1B visas are not supported
