Medical genetics and genomics - Nashville, TN | ACGME Code: 1304700034

The Clinical Medical Genetics Residency Program at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is a two-year ACGME-accredited program. The program aims to train geneticists to excel in the genomics era as academic physicians or clinical geneticists. Residents will have opportunities for research experiences and mentoring to help them identify and excel in various opportunities.

The program provides comprehensive training covering diagnostic workup, therapeutic strategies, counseling, and education for patients from prenatal stages through adulthood. Residents will work with a multidisciplinary team including geneticists, molecular and cytogeneticists, dieticians, nurses, and social workers. Rotations will also involve working with specialists from various fields such as neurologists, psychologists, oncologists, and obstetricians.

Candidates must have completed a residency in another specialty before applying to the program. They are required to complete two years of training in genetics to be eligible for ABMGG certification in clinical genetics, with an expectation of six months dedicated to research.

During the 18 months of clinical rotations, residents will work in inpatient consultation services, outpatient clinics, multidisciplinary clinics, and diagnostic laboratories. Vanderbilt University Medical Center offers a range of electives and research opportunities to enhance residents' learning experiences.

Applicants are encouraged to use the National Residency Match Program (NRMP) for entry and submit applications through the AAMC Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). International graduates must have attended an ACGME-accredited United States primary residency program for a minimum of two years before applying to the program. Application requirements include an ERAS CV, three letters of reference (one from the current residency program director), a personal statement, official medical school transcript, and USMLE scores.
