Ascension Genesys Hospital Program

The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Ascension Genesys Hospital is a 4-year ACGME-accredited program that began in 1993. They are dedicated to providing excellence in emergency medicine training, focusing on enhancing the understanding of basic science and clinical practice. Residents run medical codes, traumas, and pediatric resuscitations and perform their procedures.

Ascension Genesys Hospital's Emergency Department is a Level-II Trauma Center with 50 beds and approximately 55,000 patients annually with a 25-30% admission rate. They are a STEMI center and nationally recognized for stroke care.

Application requirements include ERAS application, USMLE/COMLEX scores, two letters of recommendation, transcripts, Dean's letter, and an ECFMG certificate for IMGs. The program accepts 6 residents per year.

Residents have 9-hour shifts totaling 18, 18, 17, and 17 per EM block during their respective years. Benefits include insurance coverage, liability insurance, and memberships.

Regarding visas for international students, they do not sponsor visas. They offer rotations for medical students and encourage shadowing within the department.

The program follows a structured curriculum to provide residents with diverse clinical experiences and skills. Didactics include weekly sessions covering various emergency medicine topics.

Professional development tracks are available in EMS, Health Care Administration, Medical Education, Research, and Ultrasound/Resuscitative Medicine to help residents develop specialized skills.
